Reclassification is the act of putting something into a different class, group, or category than before. It is used in areas such as science, law, education, and data management. This usually happens when new information or a new system changes how something should be organized.

classification（分類）が土台。そこに re- が付くので、「いったん決めた分類を、もう一度やり直す」と押さえると覚えやすいです。単なる class 分けではなく、基準の見直しまで含むのがポイント。reclassify（再分類する）の名詞形だと見ると定着しやすいです。taxonomic reclassification, data reclassification のように、研究・制度・データ整理で既存カテゴリを組み替える場面でよく使います。classification と違い、「最初の分類」ではなく「再編成としての分類変更」を指す語です。

reclassification は re-「再び」+ class「分類の組」+ -fication「作ること」。classify や classification と同系で、class はラテン語 classis に由来し、「いったん分けたものを分け直す」から再分類になる。
