recollects は re-「再び」+ collect「集める」から成り、ラテン語 recolligere「再び集める」に由来します。関連語は collect, select で、「散らばった記憶をもう一度集める」から「思い出す」になった語です。
Recollects comes from re- "again" and collect, from Latin recolligere, meaning "to gather again." The original image is of bringing scattered things back together. In English, that picture became mental, so the word came to mean gathering scattered memories and thus remembering.
