reduplication は re-「再び」+ duplication「二重化」で、ラテン語 duplicare「二倍にする」が土台です。duplic- は duplex「二重の」と同根で、同じ形をもう一度重ねることから「重複・反復」という意味になりました。関連語に duplicate, duplex があります。
