A carcinoid is a type of slow-growing tumor that often begins in the digestive system or lungs. It is a medical term used for a particular kind of growth that may behave less aggressively than many other cancers.

carcino- が見えたら carcinoma や carcinogenic と同じ「がん関連」の仲間、とまず束で覚える。そこに -oid（〜様の、〜型の）が付くので、「典型的ながんそのもの」より「がん様の腫瘍名」という感覚で押さえると残りやすい。実際は carcinoid tumor の形で目にすることが多く、消化管や肺にできる比較的ゆっくり進む神経内分泌腫瘍、という使用場面まで一緒に結ぶと定着しやすい。
