resounds はラテン語 re-「再び・返って」+ sonare「鳴る」由来の resound に三単現 -s が付いた形です。音が「返って鳴る」が原義なので、ただ鳴るのでなく場いっぱいに響き渡る感じが出ます。関連語は resonate, sonic。
