A rooter is a person who strongly supports a team, group, or idea. The word is often used in sports or in informal American English for an enthusiastic fan. It is a fairly casual word and is less common than supporter or fan in many situations.

rooter は動詞 root for ...「…を応援する」をそのまま人にした形で、-er が付くと「その行為をする人」。まず root for your team や root for the home side をセットで覚えると、名詞 rooter も自然に出てくる。tree root の「根」や route / router と混同しないこと。supporter よりも、試合で声を張って肩入れする熱いファン像が強い。cheerleader は演じる側、rooter は観客席から後押しする側、と分けると定着しやすい。
