the rudiments of+分野「〜の基礎」というまとまりで覚えると定着しやすい。単数形より複数形で使われるのが普通で、learn、teach、master、understand とよく結び付く。basics とほぼ同じだが、rudiments はやや改まった語で、体系的な学問・技術の初歩を指しやすい。まず骨組みだけを身に付ける場面をイメージするとよい。
