shampooing は shampoo＋-ing。shampoo はヒンディー語 champo「もめ・押せ」に由来し、英印英語で「頭をもみ洗いする」語になりました。shampoo や shampooer も同根で、髪を洗う意味の芯に「押す・揉む」が残っていると見える語です。
Shampooing comes from shampoo with the ending -ing. Shampoo came into English from Hindi champo, an imperative meaning "press" or "massage," and in Anglo-Indian use it first referred to massaging the body or head. The meaning later narrowed to washing the hair, but the old idea of rubbing or pressing is still inside the word.
