解説 Definition
右舷とは、船の乗組員が船首（前）を向いて立つときの右側を指します。航海用語であり、左舷の反対側です。
Starboard is the right side of a ship or boat when you are facing forward. It is a standard direction word used in sailing and navigation. It is the opposite of port.
覚え方のコツ Memory Tip

starboard は古英語 steorbord に由来し、steor（舵を取る）＋bord（船べり）の合成語。昔は船の右側で舵取りしたため、文字どおり「舵のある側」から右舷を意味するようになった。関連語は steer, board。
