subjectivity はフランス語 subjectivite と subjective + -ity から成る「主観性」。subject はラテン語 sub-「下に」+ iacere「投げる」に由来し、subject や subjectivism と結ぶと、物事を自分側に置いて見る感じが伝わる。
Subjectivity comes from French `subjectivite` and from `subjective` + `-ity`. The deeper root is Latin `sub-` "under" + `iacere` "to throw," which also gave English `subject`. The idea developed from something placed under or brought before a person to a way of seeing things from the personal inner side.
