subjective の語源・成り立ち Etymology
subjectiveはsubject + -ive。subjectはラテン語sub-「下に」+ jacere「投げる」で、本来は「下に置かれたもの」だが、そこから認識する側の「主体」を指すようになった。subjectとobjectは同じjacereをもつ。
Subjective comes from subject plus the adjective ending -ive. Subject comes from Latin sub- "under" and jacere "to throw," so its earlier sense was something "placed under." Over time, subject also came to mean the thinking person or inner self, and subjective developed the sense of "seen from a personal point of view." Subject and object share the same Latin root.
