解説 Definition
語句や文についた引用符を外して、通常の文として扱えるようにすることを指す。文章編集やデータ処理で使われ、直接引用ではない表現からかぎ括弧やクォーテーションマークを外す場面で用いられる。話し言葉では引用の終わりを示す意味で使われることもある。
Unquote means to show that quoted words have ended when speaking aloud or dictating text. It is mainly used in formal speech, transcription, or editing, and can also mean to remove quotation marks in written text.

quote が「引用する」なので、unquote はまず「引用状態を解除する」と押さえると覚えやすいです。un- は undo, unlock, unpack と同じく「外す・元に戻す」の型。文章編集では quoted string を unquote して裸の文字列に戻す、会話では quote ... unquote で『ここから引用』『引用終わり』を示す、という2場面をセットで覚えると残ります。単なる translate ではなく、quotation marks を取って通常文に戻す動作だと意識すると混同しにくいです。
Start from `quote`, then use `un-` in the same way as `unlock` or `undo`: remove or reverse. So `unquote` means to take something out of quotation form. You can remember both common uses together: in editing, remove quotation marks; in speech, `quote ... unquote` marks the end of a quoted phrase.
