まだ読まれていない状態を表します。メッセージ、メール、本、または文書など、受け取ったが内容がまだ確認されていない状態を指します。
If something is unread, it has not yet been read by someone. It is commonly used for messages, emails, or documents that are still waiting for attention. In some contexts, it can also describe a book or article that a person owns but has never read.

まず read が「読む」、un- が付くと「未〜・まだ〜していない」になる基本パターンを他語と一緒に覚えると定着します。unread は直訳どおり「まだ読まれていない」で、メールや通知では unread messages, unread email が定番。open されていない unopened とは違い、中身を開いた後でも読んでいなければ unread のままです。似た unreadable は「読めない・判読不能」で別語。アプリの未読バッジの場面と結びつけると忘れにくいです。
