un- は否定でなく「逆向き」を表し、wind は古英語 windan「ねじる・巻く」。だから unwound は「巻いたものをほどいた」が原義で、そこから緊張がほどけて「くつろいだ」にも広がる。winding や wind up と同じ根で、「巻き」が芯にある。
In unwound, the prefix un- does not mean "not" but "reverse" or "undo." Wind comes from Old English windan, meaning "to twist" or "wrap."
