vellum の語源・成り立ち Etymology
vellum は古フランス語 velin「子牛皮の」から来て、さらにラテン語 vitulus「子牛」にさかのぼります。分解語ではありませんが、veal や vitelline も同じ語根で、「子牛の皮」が上質な羊皮紙を指すようになった流れが見えます。
