Voltage is the amount of electrical force that moves electric current through a system. It is a basic term in electricity, electronics, and engineering. It is usually measured in volts.

フランス語 voltage が語源で、電池研究で知られる物理学者 Volta の名に、名詞化の接尾辞 -age が付いた語。つまり「ボルタにちなむ量」が「電位差＝電圧」になった。同系語に volt, voltmeter がある。
