wallaroo は英語内部で分解できる語ではなく、オーストラリア先住民語 Dharug の walaru をそのまま借りた語です。ヨーロッパ語の接頭辞や語根ではなく、その土地での呼び名が英語に入ったため、「ワラルー」はまず動物名そのものだと理解できます。近い借用語に wallaby があります。
Wallaroo is not built from common English parts. It was borrowed from Dharug, an Australian Aboriginal language, from a form like walaru. English took over the local animal name directly, rather than creating a new word from European roots. A similar borrowing is wallaby.
