羊から採った毛のこと。紡いで糸にしたり、布に織ったりするのに使われます。
Wool is the soft hair from sheep and some other animals, used to make cloth, sweaters, and other warm products. It is a natural material known for keeping heat well. The word can mean either the raw hair or the fabric made from it.

wool は古英語 wull、さらにゲルマン祖語 *wulno にさかのぼる、とても古い「羊毛」の語。英語 woolen や woolly、さらに遠くはラテン語 lana と同根で、寒さをしのぐ基本素材だった重みが語の古さに残っている。
