acing は ace の動詞形で、ace は古フランス語 as、さらにラテン語 as「1単位の貨幣・1の目」に由来します。カードやサイコロの「1」が特別な札として強さを帯び、tennis の ace も同じ語です。だから acing は「決定打を取る」「見事に決める」という感覚になります。
Acing comes from the verb ace. Ace came into English through Old French as, from Latin as, a unit meaning "one" on dice or coins. Because the one on a card or a perfect winning shot came to be seen as special or strong, the verb developed the sense of doing something extremely well.
