Socialisation is the process of learning how to behave, communicate, and fit into a society or group. It is commonly used in psychology, education, and everyday life when talking about children, animals, or new members of a community. This is the British spelling of "socialization."

Start from `social`, the easy word about being with other people. Then notice `-isation`, which often shows a process, not one moment. So `socialisation` is the gradual process of becoming comfortable and skilled in human interaction; British spelling uses `s`, while American English usually writes `socialization`.

socialisation はラテン語 socius「仲間」を核にする social に、動詞化の -ise と名詞化の -ation が重なった語です。society や associate も同根で、「人を仲間の輪へ入れること」だと見ると、社会化・社交化の意味が自然に理解できます。
Socialisation is built from social, plus the endings -ise and -ation. Social comes from Latin socius, meaning "companion" or "ally," the same root seen in society and associate. The idea developed from bringing someone into the company of others, and then into the wider sense of becoming part of a social group or system.
