地球の正反対側にある場所、特に表面が対径線上にある2つの地点。ヨーロッパとオーストラリアやニュージーランドの関係を示すのに使われることが多い。

ギリシャ語 anti-「反対」+ pous/pod-「足」が語源。直訳は「足が向かい合う人々」で、地球の反対側に立つ場所という対蹠地の意味になった。podium や tripod も同じ pod- を含む。
