Aphasia is a medical condition that affects a person's ability to use language. Someone with aphasia may have trouble speaking, understanding speech, reading, or writing, often after a stroke or brain injury. It is mainly used in medical and psychological contexts.
覚え方のコツ Memory Tip
まず amnesia を思い出すと覚えやすい。どちらも -ia で終わる医療名詞で、「脳の障害である能力が失われた状態」をまとめて連想できる。amnesia が記憶の障害なら、aphasia は言葉の障害。脳卒中や脳損傷の説明でよく出て、patients with aphasia のように使われる。発音しにくいだけの dysarthria と違い、話す・読む・書く・理解するといった言語機能そのものが崩れる語だと押さえると混同しにくい。
