二つ以上のものが互いに補い合う関係にある性質。量子力学でも使われる概念。
Complementarity is the relationship between two things that complete or support each other. It is used when different qualities or roles work well together because each provides what the other lacks.

complementarity は、まず complement「補う」と complementary「相補的な」を土台にすると覚えやすいです。complete と形が近いので、「欠けた部分が埋まって全体が完成する関係」とイメージすると定着します。-ity は similarity, complexity などと同じく「性質」を作る語尾。大事なのは「似ていること」ではなく、「役割が違うのに組み合わさると強いこと」。complimentary「無料の・賛辞の」とつづりも意味も紛らわしいので分けて覚えるのがコツです。
Build it from "complement" and "complementary." The key idea is not "the same," but "different parts that fit together well" and make a whole stronger. Also watch the spelling: it is different from "complimentary," which means free or praising.
