consignor は consign「委託する・送る」に行為者を表す -or が付いた語。consign は古フランス語 consigner、さらにラテン語 consignare にさかのぼり、con-「共に」+ signum「印」で「印を付けて託す」が原義。signature や signal も同じ sign の仲間で、荷に印を付けて送り出す人→荷主と分かります。
