数学・天文学で、円すい曲線や天体軌道が真円からどれだけ外れているかを表す数値。0なら円、0に近いほど丸く、1に近づくほど細長い楕円になる。惑星・彗星・衛星の軌道形状を説明する専門用語。
In math and geometry, eccentricity is a number that shows how far a shape such as an ellipse is from being perfectly circular. In astronomy, it describes how stretched an orbit is, with larger values showing a less round path.
