ensuing の語源・成り立ち Etymology
ensuing は ensue の現在分詞形で、英仏語 ensuer、さらにラテン語 insequi「後を追う」にさかのぼります。en- は「続いて」、sue はここでは「訴える」でなく「追う・従う」の古い意味です。pursue, sequence も同じ sequi 系で、「後から続いて起こる」が語源どおりです。
