ある経済活動が市場に反映されない形で第三者に及ぼす費用または利益。特に経済学では、環境汚染など社会全体に影響を及ぼす現象を指す。
An externality is an effect of a person’s or company’s actions on other people who are not directly involved. This word is often used in economics when talking about costs or benefits that are not included in the price of something. It can describe both negative effects, like pollution, and positive ones, like public health benefits.
