Fanfiction is fiction written by admirers of an existing book, film, television series, game, or other work, using its characters, setting, or story world. It is often treated as an uncountable noun.
使い方 Usage
- ジャンルや作品群を指すときは不可算扱いが多く、write fanfiction、read fanfiction と使います。 Fanfiction is often uncountable when referring to the genre or a body of writing. Common phrases are write fanfiction and read fanfiction.

fanとfictionの合成語です。fanはfanaticの略語でラテン語「神殿」に、fictionはfingere（形作る）から派生し「作り話」を指します。両者が結びつき「ファンが独自に紡ぐ二次創作」となり、関連語にfanaticやfictitiousがあります。
