gluteal はまず fitness や解剖で見かける glutes / gluteus と結び付けると覚えやすいです。語幹 glute- が「臀部・お尻の筋肉」の範囲を示し、-al は dental, nasal, facial などと同じ「〜に関する」という形容詞語尾。したがって gluteal muscles なら「臀部の筋肉」。名詞ではなく形容詞なので、単独で「お尻」ではなく「臀部の〜」と何かを説明する語として出ると意識すると定着します。gluten とはつづりが少し似ても無関係なので混同注意。
