Imperceptible means so small, slight, or weak that it cannot be noticed or sensed. It is used for changes, movements, sounds, or differences that are almost impossible for people to detect.

まず perceive / perception を知っていると覚えやすい語です。percept が「知覚」に関わる核で、im- が否定なので「知覚できない」がそのまま見えます。invisible が「見えない」なのに対し、imperceptible は視覚に限らず、音・変化・影響などが感覚ではほぼ捉えられないほど微かな感じです。an imperceptible change のように「ほとんど気づけない変化」と結びつけると定着します。

imperceptible は im-「否定」+ percept「受け取る・知覚する」+ -ible「できる」で、ラテン語 percipere「完全に受け取る」にさかのぼります。perceive や perception と同根で、感覚に取り込めないほど細かいという意味が形のまま見えます。
Imperceptible comes from im-, meaning "not," plus percept, from Latin percipere, "to take in fully," and -ible, meaning "able to be." It shares its root with perceive and perception. The word came to mean something so slight that the senses cannot take it in.
