Indiscernible means impossible or very difficult to see, recognize, or tell apart. It is used when a shape, sound, difference, or detail is too unclear to notice.
覚え方のコツ Memory Tip
discern が「見分ける」、discernible が「見分けられる」。そこに否定の in- が付いた反対語が indiscernible と押さえると覚えやすいです。visible / invisible と同じ形なので、まず「区別できる／できない」のペアで記憶すると定着します。暗がりで details are indiscernible、二者の違いが an indiscernible difference のように、見えないというより『見えていても判別できない』場面で使う語です。invisible は完全に見えない、indiscernible は輪郭や存在はあっても識別不能、という差に注意。

ラテン語 discernere（分けて見分ける）に、否定の in- と「〜できる」の -ible が加わった語です。dis-「離して」+ cernere「選り分ける」なので、違いを切り分けて見られず「識別できない」となります。関連語は discern、concern です。
Indiscernible comes from in- "not," discern, and -ible "able to." Discern goes back to Latin discernere, built from dis- "apart" and cernere "to separate" or "distinguish." So the word means something that cannot be told apart or clearly recognized; related words include discern and concern.
