映画やビデオ編集で、異なるシーン、人物、または場所を交互に挿入する技法。複数の並列するナレーティブを表現するために使用される。
To intercut means to put shots, scenes, or parts of a story between each other in alternating order. It is mainly used in film, television, and video editing. This technique often shows actions happening at the same time or creates a clear comparison.
覚え方のコツ Memory Tip
`inter-` は「間に・相互に」、`cut` は「切る」。まず「切った映像を別の場面の“間に入れる”動き」として覚えると定着しやすいです。映画編集では `intercut A with B` の形で、二つの場面を行き来しながら見せるときによく使います。単に cut が「切る」なのに対し、intercut は「別の流れをはさんで交互につなぐ」感じ。会話の interrupt と同じ `inter-` を見たら、「間に入る」イメージを呼び出すと意味が取りやすいです。
`Inter-` often means between or back-and-forth, and `cut` is easy to picture. So `intercut` is not just cutting, but cutting between two scenes and showing them in turn. Remember the film pattern `intercut A with B`.
