Definition

The period between the end of one event or situation and the beginning of the next stage. It often refers to a temporary period before a permanent appointment, final decision, or official arrangement is ready.

Memory Tip

an interim report, interim government, interim measures

Connect inter- with the idea of “between,” as in interval. The interim is the time between the old situation and the later, more permanent one. The phrase “in the interim” means “during that period.”

例文

The committee will manage the project during the interim.

She found part-time work in the interim.

The office will remain closed in the interim while repairs are underway.
