jin の語源・成り立ち Etymology
オランダ語 genever（ジュニパーベリーの蒸留酒）の短縮形で、ラテン語 juniperus（セイヨウネズ）に遡る。フランス語 genièvre も同源。関連語: juniper（ネズの木）。ジュニパーベリーで香り付けした蒸留酒が原義で、名前が短縮されて gin となった。
