A jingo is a person with extreme patriotism who strongly supports war or aggressive action against other countries. The word is usually critical, not neutral. It suggests loud national pride combined with hostility toward outsiders.

もとは英語の間投詞 by jingo の jingo で、おそらく Jesus をぼかした言い方。1878年の軍国的な流行歌の文句から「好戦的愛国主義者」を指す名詞になり、掛け声がそのまま人の呼び名になった語。関連語は jingoism, jingoist。
Jingo first appeared in the English exclamation by jingo, probably a softened form of Jesus used to avoid saying the sacred name directly. In 1878, it became famous in a patriotic war song, and the shout was then applied to people with aggressive nationalist views. From that, English formed jingoism and jingoist.
