knockdown は knock「打つ、倒す」と down「下へ」から成る英語の複合語です。「倒す」という文字どおりの意味から、構造物を分解可能な状態にするという用法が生じ、分解して運搬し再び組み立てられる構造を表す形容詞になりました。
