A madman is a man who is thought to be dangerously mentally disturbed or wildly unreasonable. It can describe someone who seems violent, irrational, or out of control. The word is strong and old-fashioned, and it may sound offensive in modern use.

madman は mad + man で、そのまま「狂った男」。まず mad を angry だけで覚えているとズレやすく、名詞化したこの形では「理性を失った危険人物」の感じが強いと押さえると残りやすいです。madness（狂気）、mad scientist（狂気の科学者）と並べて覚えると定着します。日常の軽い "I’m mad" とは重さが違い、物語・事件報道・比喩で出やすい語です。
