多くの店舗が集まる屋内または屋外の商業施設で、歩行者専用の通路です。ショッピングセンターやアーケード街を指すことが多いです。
A mall is a large building or area with many shops, restaurants, and other services in one place. People go there to shop, eat, or spend free time. In some regions, it especially means a shopping center.

イタリア語 pall-mall（球技の一種）に由来。この球技が行われた並木道が散歩道→商店街の意味に発展した。ロンドンの「ザ・モール」も同源。関連語：promenade（遊歩道）。球技の通り道が買い物の通り道になった。
Mall comes from pall-mall, the name of an old game borrowed through Italian. The word was first used for the long walk or lane where that game was played, especially in places like London’s The Mall. Later, it came to mean a public promenade, and then a street or building area for shopping.
