mem
私
覚え方のコツ Memory Tip
mem は「私」を表す標準的な英語代名詞ではなく、特殊な表記や非標準形として文脈依存で現れる形です。標準英語では主語に I、目的語に me、所有に my・mine を使います。「me に余分な m が付いた非標準形」として識別し、自分で通常の英文を書く際は置き換えて使い分けましょう。
Treat mem as a nonstandard or context-dependent form, not as an additional standard English pronoun. Its useful memory link is me: both point to the speaker, but ordinary English requires I as the subject and me as the object. For possession, use my before a noun and mine without one. Imagine editing an informal or unusual spelling mem back to the standard form demanded by the sentence. This approach preserves the intended meaning “私” while preventing the headword from entering your normal written English as though it were universally accepted.
mem の語源・成り立ち Etymology
mem という形は標準英語では一般的でなく、語源的には me 系の変形・略記と考えるのが自然です。核になる me は古英語 me、さらに印欧祖語 *me- にさかのぼる非常に古い代名詞で、「私」を直接さす最短の形だから意味もぶれません。関連語は my、mine。
There is no secure basis for treating mem, in the sense “me,” as an independent standard English word with a well-defined history. It is best understood as a rare, nonstandard, or context-specific alteration of me. Standard me descends from Old English mē and belongs to an ancient Indo-European pronoun group conventionally reconstructed with a form such as me-. The final m in mem may reflect a particular spelling convention or local usage rather than a regular English suffix.
