解説 Definition
細胞や組織の周囲にある小規模な局所環境を指す生物学用語。その環境には、細胞の成長や機能に直接影響を与える物理的、化学的、および生物学的条件が含まれる。
A microenvironment is the small, immediate environment around a cell, tissue, organism, or object. It is often used in biology, medicine, and ecology. This local environment can strongly affect how something grows, behaves, or changes.

micro- は microscope, microorganism などで見慣れた「小さい」の印。そこに environment が付くので、microenvironment は「環境一般」ではなく「ある細胞・組織のすぐ周りに限った局所環境」と取ると覚えやすいです。生物では cell / tissue / tumor microenvironment の形でよく出て、対象そのものではなく、その周囲の酸素・栄養・他細胞・信号分子まで含むのがポイント。単なる environment よりずっと近くて狭い、と対比で定着させると強いです。
