部品や要素が正しい位置からずれていること。意見や目標の不一致にも使う。
Misalignment means that things are not in the correct position or are not working together properly. It can refer to physical position, such as parts of a machine, or to differences in goals, ideas, or timing.
覚え方のコツ Memory Tip
align＝一直線にそろえる、alignment＝整列・整合を先に押さえると、mis- が付いた misalignment は「そろうべきものがそろっていない状態」と取れる。機械や部品の位置ずれにも、team goals / incentives / expectations の不一致にも使えるのが記憶の核。fix / correct / address a misalignment の形で見かけやすい。mismatch が「単に合わない」なら、misalignment は「軸・方向・基準がずれている」感じが強い。

misalignment は古英語由来の mis-「誤って」+ align + -ment から成り、align はフランス語経由でラテン語 linea「線」にさかのぼります。line や linear と同根で、「一本の線にそろうはずのものが外れる」と考えると、位置ずれの意味がそのまま見えます。
