mocha はアラビア語由来の地名 al-Mukha（モカ港）から来た語で、イエメンのその港から積み出されたコーヒー豆の名が飲み物名になりました。cafe mocha や mochaccino も同じ名残で、もとは味ではなく「モカ港産」という産地表示だったと分かると印象が変わります。
Mocha comes from al-Mukha, the name of a port in Yemen, through Arabic and European trade use. Coffee beans shipped from that port became known by the place name. Later, the name moved from the beans to the drink style, including forms like cafe mocha and mochaccino. At first, it meant coffee from Mocha, not a chocolate flavor.
