ドキュメンタリーの形式を模した架空の映像作品のジャンルです。コメディや風刺として作られることが多いですが、必ずしも笑いを目的とするとは限りません。
A mockumentary is a fictional movie or TV show made in the style of a documentary. It often uses interviews, realistic camera work, and serious presentation for humor or satire.

mockumentary は mock「まねてからかう」（古フランス語系）と documentary の合成語です。documentary はラテン語 docere「教える」にさかのぼり、document や doctrine と同根なので、「記録映画の形で教えるものをわざとまねる」と分かります。
