「mother tongue」は、生まれて最初に身につけた言語、つまり母語を指す表現で、アイデンティティや文化、思考の基盤を語るときによく使う。日常の自己紹介でも、言語教育の場面でも登場し、その人にとって自然で当たり前の言語というニュアンス。
