ナルシストとは、自分自身に強い魅力を感じて自己評価を過度に高く持つ人のことです。自分の成功や外見にこだわり、他人より常に自分を優先する傾向があります。他人の視線や評価を必要以上に気にして、共感よりも賞賛を求めがちです。
A narcissist is a person who is too focused on themselves and wants a lot of attention or admiration from others. The word is often used for someone who seems selfish or self-centered in everyday life. In psychology, it can also have a more specific meaning.
覚え方のコツ Memory Tip
まず語尾の -ist は「そういう立場・性質の人」。artist, pianist と同じ形なので、narcissist も「ある傾向をもつ人」と捉えると覚えやすいです。実際は narcissism（自己愛）をもつ人で、形容詞は narcissistic。confident が「自信がある」だけなのに対し、narcissist は自分への関心が強すぎて他人への共感が薄い響きがあります。self-absorbed に近い場面で出やすい語です。
The ending "-ist" often means a person, as in "artist" or "pianist." So a narcissist is a person connected to "narcissism," and the adjective is "narcissistic." To keep it clear, compare it with "confident": confident is neutral, but narcissist suggests too much self-focus.
