現代の curate「キュレートする」は curator から逆成された動詞で、さらにラテン語 curare「世話をする」へさかのぼります。語根 cur- には care の感覚があり、単に並べるのでなく「注意深く選び、面倒を見る」ので今の意味になりました。関連語は curator, cure。
Curate in the modern sense was formed in English from curator, and both go back to Latin curare, meaning "to take care of." The root carries the idea of care and attention, also seen in cure. That is why curate came to mean not just collecting things, but carefully selecting and looking after them.
