まず existence が「存在」で、exist / existing / existential などの仲間を思い出すと軸が定まります。その前に non- が付くだけなので、「存在の反対側に倒した語」として覚えると形と意味が一致します。absence は「不在」、nothingness は「無」、nonexistence はもっと論理的に「そもそも存在していないこと」。哲学や議論で the nonexistence of God / evidence for nonexistence のように使われやすい語です。
