解説 Definition
「octopus」は、8本の腕（触手）を持つ軟体動物の頭足類で、世界中の海に生息しています。非常に知能が高く、擬態能力や問題解決能力でも知られています。日本語では「タコ」と呼ばれ、日本料理では刺身やたこ焼きなどとして広く食されています。

Because the word is Greek in origin, the historically Greek plural octopodes exists, while the Latin-style octopi arose later. In contemporary English, however, the regular plural octopuses is the most common form.
