イカは海に生息する頭足類で、やわらかい体に十本の足をもち、すばやく泳ぎ回る。捕食者として小魚や甲殻類を捕らえ、危険を察すると墨袋から墨を出して身を守る。刺身や揚げ物などの食材としても親しまれており、日本料理をはじめ世界各地の食文化で使われている。
