Memory Tip
a huge ogre、an ogre in a cave
Picture a huge monster living in a cave, threatening villagers, and fighting a hero. Unlike the general word "monster," this word often refers to a giant humanlike creature from a folktale; calling a cruel person an ogre uses the same image.

Etymology
Ogre entered English from French ogre and is said to trace through Italian orco to Latin Orcus, a name associated with the underworld. The word later came to refer to a terrifying, man-eating monster.
